The Toyota Mobility Foundation was established in 2014. Toyota has looked at global trends in the mobility and transport sector and has observed that urbanization and globalisation have changed how we move. This has brought many different challenges, especially to developing countries who do not have the infrastructure for increased population (yet). More and more people are living in cities and an increased ageing population brings with it challenges. Toyota Foundation looks for mobility issues around the world to apply its technological, safety and environmental expertise. It does so by working on large and complex infrastructure projects. One of these is in Bangkok, which has faced an “unprecedented population swell” resulting in traffic often coming to a standstill. Toyota plans to create a park and ride system, as well as create smart systems to contribute to help reduce traffic bottlenecks.
