Fietsmaatjes offers people who can no longer go outside independently the opportunity to enjoy cycling and social contact. The project connects these guests with enthusiastic volunteers who have a passion for cycling. Together, they go on bike rides on a comfortable duo bike with electric assistance, sitting side by side in a sociable way.

The rides range from a relaxing tour through the village, with a coffee stop as a highlight, to challenging trips through wind and weather. It’s all about fun, connection, and the joy of being outdoors. Both guests and volunteers enjoy the movement, the laughter, and the sense of belonging. Staying active and healthy has never been this enjoyable!

Fietsmaatjes is for people with limitations in mobility, vision, hearing, balance, or cognitive abilities, such as dementia. For these guests, the project not only offers a chance to be more active but also to maintain social connections and combat loneliness. Additionally, Fietsmaatjes provides relief for caregivers or creates a new way to connect with their loved ones.

Volunteers, young and old, also gain great satisfaction from the interaction and physical activity. For them, Fietsmaatjes is a healthy and meaningful way to spend their free time.

The organization operates with local teams that ensure smooth coordination. Volunteers receive clear instructions, and both guests and volunteers undergo an introductory meeting to guarantee a good match.

The duo bikes are sturdy, safe, and are checked weekly by a volunteer and maintained by a professional bike mechanic. This contributes to a worry-free and secure experience for everyone. Thanks to this careful approach, strong and lasting friendships develop between guests and volunteers.
