Criteria

The New Mobility Foundation will act as a facilitator of projects – either Dutch or international – aimed at tackling transport poverty. By recognising itself as a facilitator the NMF will be identifying projects, initiatives and start-ups as potential benefactors that are eligible for project-support.

The project-support consists of financial means and deployment of an extensive network of funds, companies and governments. Projects and initiatives that would like to apply for project-support have to meet the following main criteria:

Governmental organisations are excluded from application.

The board will discuss the awards during the boardmeetings and only decisions by writing will be valid.

The focus of the project or initiative is on the physical movement from A to B.

The focus of the project or initiative is on at least one of the following target group(s): elderly, people, disabled people, people with low income and refugees.

Initiatives and projects should embrace digital means, like apps and smart technology. We believe that technology and innovative digital means are the way to tackle the long-standing issue of transport poverty and its negative side effects such as social isolation, loss of education and job opportunities and physical health. We also believe that digital means are beneficial for safe and sustainable transport.

Innovative and unique idea and/or use of innovative technology.

In line with the previous criterion, initiatives and projects should comply with at least two (3 & 11) of the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to accessible, safe and sustainable transport, which the New Mobility Foundation has a strong commitment to. It therefore is considered a plus if projects and initiatives are somehow related to these goals.
3.6 = by 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents;
11.2 = by 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.

The societal impact of the project is measurable and can be displayed in facts and figures.

The project is easily replicable, broadly applicable and flexible. In other words: the project has the potential to reach a lot of people, in urban as well as rural areas.

Provides solutions to longstanding issues.

The project initiators are experienced, knowledgeable and do operate a relevant network.

These main criteria cover some of the most crucial requirements for initiatives and projects in order to achieve project-support. Furthermore, we would like to emphasize that applicants should think of other relevant elements, such as flexibility, availability and management style. Questions that relate to these elements for example encompass:
• Does the project has the potential to reach a lot of people?
• Is the project easily replicable, flexible and broadly applicable, for example except for urban areas also for rural areas?
• Are the project initiators experienced and knowledgeable?
• Is the societal impact of the project measurable?
• Is the requested amount for project-support less than € 20.000?
